Last night, the Lakehead Rotary family came together for one of our favourite traditions, the annual President’s BBQ.
On paper, it’s the evening where the gavel is passed from one president to the next. In reality, it is so much more than that. It’s a chance to pause, look around the room, and feel grateful for the people who continue to show up for one another and for our community.
We were joined by friends from the Port Arthur, Fort William, and Nipigon Rotary Clubs, along with the District Governor Elaine Hansen, who made the long trip from Duluth to celebrate with us as part of Rotary District 5580. Together, we looked back on a year filled with service, connection, and moments that reminded us why Rotary matters. We shared a heartfelt thank you to outgoing President Audrey, whose leadership brought real thought and intention to every meeting. Audrey has a gift for helping people see meaning in the work we do, and her passion for the environment left a lasting mark on our club and our conversations.
We are also excited to welcome Don as this year’s President. With his experience through Scouts Canada, Don brings a natural ability to lead by encouraging others, building confidence, and creating space for people to grow. We look forward to the year ahead under his leadership.
Each year, we typically recognize one member with the Rotarian of the Year Award. This year, there were two. Congratulations to Tyler and Kyla, two deserving members with very different stories of service. Those stories deserve their own moment, stories to be shared separately...(stay tuned..)
As one Rotary year comes to a close and another begins, we're reminded that while presidents may change, the heart of our club never does. It's found in the people who give their time, their talents, and their hearts to making our community just a little bit better. Here's to another year of friendship, service, and finding new ways to make a difference together. 💙
