Inspired by the President’s Message in the May edition of Rotary magazine:
May arrives like a quiet invitation, and within Rotary it becomes a season of listening, learning, and opening doors. There is a story of a young man who left Uganda for South Africa with more questions than certainty. What he found was Rotary, a place where strangers became companions and where belonging was offered freely. That welcome did more than ease his journey. It reshaped it. In that space, he saw how young people could gather from different corners of the world, grow together, and turn shared purpose into action.
That is the spirit of Youth Service Month.
Rotary creates spaces where young people are not waiting for a turn but stepping forward to lead. Through programs and service, they gain confidence, discover the reach of their voice, and begin to understand the difference they can make. The experience stays with them, long after meetings end and projects are completed. Many continue walking alongside Rotary, returning as mentors and leaders, guiding others with the same encouragement they once received. The connection does not fade. It evolves, weaving generations together into something stronger.
Youth Service Month is a reminder for Rotary to keep that door open. To invite young people into conversations, into planning, into the heart of service itself. When that happens, ideas flow more freely, purpose deepens, and the work becomes richer. Because when Rotary invests in young people, it is not only preparing for the future. It is strengthening the present, building a community where every generation stands together, united in service and ready to create lasting good.
