Did you know that Thunder Bay REAct (Rotary Environmental Action) Committee is made up of Rotarians from all three local clubs, Port Arthur Rotary, Lakehead Rotary Club, and Fort William Rotary?
It started with a simple idea. What if people from across the city came together, not as separate clubs, but as one team focused on the environment they all share? From that idea, Thunder Bay REAct took shape. With their support, EcoSuperior’s Litter Free Lakes Program continues its quiet, important work. Each day, Litter Free Lakes Coordinator, Dr. Kennedy Bucci, checks and maintains LittaTraps tucked beneath storm drains around Thunder Bay. Out of sight for most, these devices catch litter before it can travel any farther, stopping it before it reaches Lake Superior.
What might have become pollution instead becomes a small, steady victory.
Working alongside Lakehead University and the City of Thunder Bay, the program blends research with hands-on action, turning knowledge into something you can see and measure. And so, through collaboration and shared purpose, three Rotary clubs move as one. Efforts ripple outward, helping protect the water, the shoreline, and the community we all call home.
