Some recognition feels a little different, because you know it was never the work of just one person.
We are incredibly honoured, and very humbled, to learn that Lakehead Rotary has received Rotary International’s 2025-26 Club Excellence Award, the most significant award a Rotary club can achieve. Lakehead Rotary is a small club. We may not have a great number of members around our tables, but perhaps that is part of what makes this recognition so meaningful to us.
We know each other. We work closely together. We share the load, step in when another set of hands is needed, and somehow find a way to turn the things we care about into things we can actually accomplish.
Our members bring different ideas, talents and passions to our club, but when something matters to us, it very quickly becomes something we take on together. And that is what this award represents to us.
It isn't about one project, one fundraiser, one committee or one person. It is the collection of all those little moments throughout a Rotary year when someone said, “I can help with that,” and someone else joined them.
Rotary’s vision is built around people uniting and taking action to create lasting change. For our little club, that has always felt very natural. We simply find things we are passionate about, roll up our sleeves, and work side by side to make them happen.
So while we are very proud to receive this honour, more than anything, we are grateful. Grateful for every member who gives what they can. Grateful for the friendships that make working together so easy. Grateful for the community that continues to believe in and support us. And maybe just a tiny bit proud that our little club can accomplish some pretty wonderful things when we accomplish them together. 💙💛
