Nothing quite signals the start of the holiday season in Thunder Bay like the beloved Rotary Santa Claus Parade. Each year, the four Rotary clubs—Port Arthur, Fort William, Lakehead, and Rotaract—come together like a well-rehearsed family, pooling their energy, creativity, and heart to light up the city with festive cheer.
This past Saturday, Memorial Avenue felt almost magical. Families lined the street, bundled in cozy coats, smiling at the clear skies and mild weather that seemed gifted specially for the day. Children waved with mittened hands as colourful floats drifted by, and a few lucky spectators caught sweet treats tossed their way. You could almost feel the shift in the air as everyone began to lean into the thought of the holiday season ahead. And, of course, no parade story is complete without the stars of the show—Santa and Mrs. Claus. As their sleigh appeared, the crowd erupted with delight. Mrs. Claus blew warm kisses to the little ones, while Santa’s belly-laugh rolled down the street like the sound of pure joy. For a moment, the whole city felt young again.
Behind all this sparkle is something even more meaningful: Rotary’s commitment to working together for the good of the community. Whether it’s through service projects, fundraising efforts, or moments of shared celebration like this parade, Rotary continues to help make Thunder Bay a brighter, kinder, and more connected place to call home.
